Gauchos Win Homecoming
Our Glendale Gauchos won their 2011 Homecoming game against the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds 47-7.
The Gaucho D didn’t allow a point and held the Thunderbirds to negative three yards rushing. Defensive tackle Cy Maughmer (Apache Junction), a recent commit to Eastern Michigan, had 2 sacks on the evening. Linebacker Tim Piccarreto was in on 9 tackles and forced a fumble while safety Matt Corven (Deer Valley) tallied 8 tackles and a sack. Safety Cody Lenhart (Ironwood) had an interception.
The Gaucho offense amassed nearly 500 yards of offense, 330 of which came on the ground. RB Anthony Hughes (Centennial) rushed for 148 yards and 1 TD while RB Jamil Hines (Chandler) rushed for 101 yards and scored a TD.
QB Spencer Stone thre TD passes to Demetrius Wilson (Millennium), Talon Haggard and Mike Hall. Stone also ran for a TD.
Glendale ends their regular season with a trip to Tucson to play Pima next Saturday at 1 p.m. Be there and support your Gauchos!
Homecoming 2011
Homecoming is this Saturday, Nov. 5 here at Glendale Community College. The Gauchos will trim the wings off of the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds.
We urge you to come dressed in your western attire or Gaucho red and cheer on our football team.
Gauchos Improve to 6-2 with 56-35 win over PC
Glendale improved to 6-2 with a 56-35 win over visiting Phoenix College on Saturday night. The Gauchos took a 20-14 lead into halftime but exploded in the 3rd quarter and were up at 56-21 at one point in the game.
Glendale’s offense was lead by QB Spencer Stone (Chaparral) who threw for 267 yards and 3 TDs with no interceptions. Wide receiver Demetrius Wilson (Millennium) had 4 catches for 139 yards and 2 TDs while GCC rushed for over 220 yards with 3 RBs scoring TDs.
Jamil Hines (Chandler) had 68 yards and 1 score, ANthony Hughes (Centennial) had 78 yards and 1 score and Devantre Burks had 72 yards and a TD on just 7 carries.
Glendale’s defense was led by cornerback Diondre Moore-Young who was in on 8 tackles, had a fumble recovery and returned an INT 94 yards for a score.
The Gauchos have a tough matchup this week at home when the #2 ranked Arizona Western Matadors head to Glendale. GCC is also ranked in the top 20 in the nation, so this will be one of the marquee matchups in the nation. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Be there!
Gaucho Football Improves to 5-2
Glendale snapped a two game skid with a 23-20 win over Scottsdale Community College on Saturday to improve to 5-2 on the year. Glendale took a 20-6 lead into half time playing great defense. The Artichokes lone score of the half came with under one minute to play before halftime.
QB Spencer Stone (Chaparral) threw three first half TDs. Matt Baugh (Centennial) caught his first touchdown of his career on a crucial 4th and long play and TE Talon Haggard and WR Demetrius Wilson (Millennium) each caught TD passes. Haggard finished with 9 catches for 66 yards and Wilson had 8 for 140 yards. Stone finished with 253 yards passing.
Scottsdale made the game close in the second half but a field goal by Jordan Ruescholff proved to be the difference in the game. The defense was led by DBs Matt Corven (Deer Valley) and Dallas Nichols (Central), who were in on 10 tackles a piece. DE Marshall Peugh (Ironwood) made 6 tackles and 2 sacks while fellow defensive linemen Jason Link (Cactus Shadows) CJ Randall (Mesquite) and Cy Maughmer (Apache Junction) each contributed sacks.
Glendale faces rival Phoenix College at home this Sat., Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!
Can’t make it to the game tomorrow night? You can watch the game live online! The home football game versus Snow College will be streamed by Local Channel 10 thanks to a radio station out of Utah, where the Badgers are from. This is the first time that this station has tried streaming a live football game so we are all hoping for success. Please be mindful though that beginning glitches may occur.
